Living well

Be an active part of things

Retirement isn’t about slowing down - but rather about doing more of the things we’ve always loved to do, right? We all want to continue to be a part of the community and feel a sense of pride and purpose. So at Waimea Plains we’re breaking the mould of traditional retirement living and we’re building a village community that offers great ways to stay engaged.

Arvida has partnered with local and international architects to deliver an approach to retirement living that focuses on creating greater connection and integration with the wider community.

Villas will be grouped in small clusters, orientated to the sun, centred around common green areas to encourage residents to socialise and create a true neighbourhood. Walkways and cycleways to link the facilities together, means you'll run into others on a regular basis and keep fit and active at the same time.

The Arvida Centre – wellness club, retail precinct and café will be fully open to the public and we'll actively encourage residents to help with providing food and services. After all, we’ve perfected some of these recipes over a lifetime of family celebrations and special occasions, so why not share them?

There will be a Club House for residents and a brand-new bridge to be built over Poutama Stream, offering vehicle access with community facilities either side. The Club House will include kitchen, bar, shared spaces for events and parties, library, wide screen TV and creative room. There will also be a bowling green and residents’ workshop. The bridge has been designed to be extra wide and developed into a garden with a barbecue area and pizza oven. We imagine it being the fun and social heart of the village.

We’ll have a gardener to help us grow our own fresh produce in our raised garden beds and glass house – and we’d love some extra assistance if you’re keen to help out. School children and other volunteers will help us with seasonal garden work, weeding and taking care of practical chores around the village and in return, we will impart our knowledge and experiences to them, teaching them valuable life skills that they will keep forever.

Whatever your passion, we’ll embrace it! If you’re keen on woodworking, our residents’ workshop will be the perfect spot to use your skills and perhaps even teach others a few of the tricks you’ve learned. If you love quilting or craft, you’ll have the perfect community in which to share your creativity and ideas. Whatever your passion, the idea is to do more of it and to share it with others of all ages!
